Dr. Sharmini Jayasekera, veterinary surgeon who was trained under JICA cooperation
initiated the work in collaboration with Japanese team to establish the animal centre. She
worked as the Head of the Section since 1989 to 2010 and she pioneered the research
activities in the animal centre, MRI.
